Manganese dioxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MnO2, black amorphous powder or black rhombic crystal, insoluble in water, weak acid, weak base, nitric acid, cold sulfuric acid, and dissolved in concentrated hydrochloric acid to produce chlorine gas when heated. Used for the preparation of manganese salt, also used as oxidant, rust remover, catalyst.
